2016 Highlights

I have completely been gone in the blogging world this year but here I am again! A lot of things have happened this 2016 but I wasn’t able to post about them. 😦  One of my goals next year is to give my blog a makeover (for the nth time) and to stay active. And… to share this blog to my Facebook friends. Hihi.

Anyways, here are the highlights of my 2016!

  • I got my Green Card!

So, you probably already know that I came to the US through K1 Visa. After 6 months since I submitted my Adjustment of Status papers, I was scheduled for an interview and received my Green Card. This card is only valid for two years though, so I’ll be working another set of paperworks next year! But it feels good that all the stress had been paid off.

  • My degree has been evaluated

I’m currently working in a preschool/childcare for our school district. In the Philippines, I was a licensed high school teacher. My goal is to be a certificated teacher here also but I feel like I don’t have the confidence to be one yet. So for now, I just wanna get used to the culture here first. I also had my Transcript of Records evaluated and the result is that I have the equivalent of a Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary Education in a regional accredited institution here in the US . I need to find out the next steps to take to achieve my goal!

This would have been a good shot if I didn't notice the camera. Haha. #listeningtime

  • Getting serious with music production

Last April, I purchased an audio interface with microphone to start my “home recording studio”. Hehe. I also bought a midi keyboard. I just started trying out these toys like a month ago and I feel like I have a potential to produce. Well, sort of. Haha. Maybe, I’ll share an output soon! If I ever finish it!

  • Watching Pentatonix Live

This has been the year I started being obsessed with this group and I’m just so lucky to have seen them perform live. It was kind of funny how I purchased the tickets right away after they got on sale but days before the concert, I found tickets on StubHub that has closer-to-the-stage seats. I sold mine in a desperately lower price so I could buy the better seats. Haha. It’s worth it though.

  • Celebrating our first wedding anniversary

Time goes by so fast. It’s already been a year since we got married! We decided to take a day off to go around Seattle and stay overnight at The Edgewater Hotel which has a very lovely view of the waterfront (Thus, the name. We don’t have good pictures though). The day after, we watched a very romantic film called “Finding Dory”. Hehe.

Happy 6th/1st Anniversary, bebiness! I love you to infinity and beyond.

  • Us the Duo Concert

After seeing them as the opening act for PTX, we decided to see them live again. This time though, they are the main performers. We also purchased the VIP package because it’s very affordable and because we love them!

My first VIP experience. Hihi. Sarap manuod ng concert pag small crowd lang. Hehe.

Us the Quartet

We got to chat with them and take a selfie with them! Woohoo! They are the nicest!

A post shared by Wannie Rodriguez (@wanniemation) on

They are incredibly talented, too (and a good-looking couple!).

Another cool thing that happened that night was that we met the Gardiner Sisters, too! They were sooo nice! We purchased their album and had them sign it.

So, we bought their album from a Tagalog/Bisaya-speaking white dude. I was kind of curious about him so I asked, “I’ve heard you said you’re from Cebu. Then, why are you speaking Tagalog?” Afterwards, he went on and on (in Tagalog) about how he learned the language, how much he loves the Philippines and that he has a group there and they’re gonna have shows there in two weeks. So, I asked, “What’s the name of your group?” He answered, “Hey Joe Show”. I told my sis-in-law, “Ui, sikat ‘to! Magpa-picture tayo!” (“This dude is famous! Let’s take a picture with him!”) That was kinda funny. Turns out, he was there selling Gardiner Sisters merch because he’s married to Allie Gardiner!

  • California Trip + LAs Vegas

I feel like this is the main highlight of this year. This is my first ever visit outside Washington except Oregon which is just a roadtrip away. My fave destinations were probably Universal Studios and Disneyland! Here’s a GoPro video compilation I created from my trip!

I also made a short clip of my experience with the walkers from Universal Studios.

And Disneyland! It’s the family’s first time to go there! My hubby and his family had this agreement that the first Disneyland visit should be with the whole family. My hubby was saying that I was lucky that I got to be there just after a year of being here in the US. He’s been here for 15 years. Hehe. Well, the good thing about being in Disneyland is it makes you feel young again. Our favorite parts are the parade and the fireworks! They are just so magical!

  • My vinyl Collection

After just a year, I have now a total of 27 vinyl records! I was planning to just buy one per month but I ended up with more. I’m planning to stick with my one-per-month goal this coming year.

  • Black Friday Post

On Black Friday, we went to the Seattle Premium Outlets which is really in Tulalip (not in Seattle). We went to different stores but the Nike Store there caught us by surprise. Every aisle of that store has orange boxes all over the place. My phone camera wasn’t working that time so I asked my sis-in-law to take a pic and send it to me. I shared that photo on my Instagram and it went viral!

It's like a zombie apocalypse. I feel bad for the people who need to clean this up. #BlackFriday #NikeOutletStore

A post shared by Wannie Rodriguez (@wanniemation) on

This Instagram account called Complex reposted it and it got 41k likes. Different sites like BuzzFeed and Yahoo! News also used this picture. I wasn’t expecting it at all! The only thing I don’t like about it getting viral is that I see people’s irrelevant opinions about the photos of this Nike Store. Just like any trending topics, they would involve race or politics with the issue. It’s just a darn messy Nike Store and I hated how people did this. It’s probably not because they were Asians or because they voted for Hillary. Not relevant at all.

  • My First Snow Experience

I’ve seen it snow before but it didn’t stick to the ground. This is actually the first time that it did and the beauty just took my breath away. I know not everyone likes it because it’s not safe to drive. I’m lucky I got to stay home that day because our school was closed due to snow.

It's snowing. ❄️ #myfirsttime #snowinseattle

A post shared by Wannie Rodriguez (@wanniemation) on

Woke up to this. So beautiful. Yet I know it's dangerous for some folks going to work today… Stay safe! #snowinseattle

  • Christmas Gifts

These are the two things in my Christmas wishlist and I got them both! My hubby gave me the Sony A6000 mirrorless camera which I already knew about and in our family exchange gift, I got a concert ukulele from my mom-in-law and her partner. Now, my next project is a music YouTube channel using these new toys. Let’s see…

  • Something special coming soon in 2017…

Happy New Year! I have more things to share in 2017 and I’m so excited! Please stick around. πŸ™‚

April and May 2016 Movie Diary

Hello! I am documenting the movies I’ve seen this year and will share a little something about them.

Before you read this post, you can also check my previous movie diaries by clicking the name of the months:

17. Cant’t Hardly Wait (1998)

Date: 04.02.16
Source: Netflix
Comment: If you’re in the mood to watch a 90’s feel-good high school movie, I recommend this.

18. The 5th Wave (2015)

Date: 04.03.16
Source: Downloaded/Rented
Comment: It’s not boring for me but I feel like there are a lot of plot holes. Not a big fan of this movie.

19. The Jungle Book (2016)

Date: 04.16.16
Source: Movie Theater
Comment: I love it!!! And the kid is so cute. He definitely fits the role. This is a funny movie and I recommend this for the whole family to watch. πŸ™‚

20. Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015)

Date: 04.30.16
Source: Downloaded/Rented
Comment: Had to watch this before watching Captain America. I like Avengers movies (the the first one and the individual ones) and this one didn’t fail me.

21. Captain America: Civil War (2016)

Date: 05.08.16
Source: Movie Theater
Comment: So much better than the Batman vs. Superman movie. In the movie, it’s hard to choose sides between Captain America and Iron Man because because both of them have a point. Spider-Man and Ant-Man/Giant-Man are awesome, too!

22. The Truman Show (1998)

Date: 05.21.16
Source: Netflix
Comment: It’s a nice film. I’m just not satisfied with the ending. I wanna know what happened to Truman after. Hehe.

23. Spy (2015)

Date: 05.27.16
Source: Cable TV
Comment: Funny and action-packed film. I like movies that show Girl Power and here’s one of them. πŸ™‚

March 2016 Movie Diary

Hello! I am documenting the movies I’ve seen this year and will share a little something about them.

Before you read this post, you can also check my previous movie diaries by clicking the name of the months:

Last March…

9. The Big Short (2015)

Date: 03.05.16
Source: Downloaded/Rented
Comment: Hmm. They say it’s good and I’m pretty sure it is. But I honestly couldn’t understand it. Haha. There are just so many jargons and even though they were explained through analogies, my shallow brain still couldn’t comprehend it. I watched it until the end though.

10. Man of Steel (2013)

Date: 03.06.16
Source: Downloaded/Rented
Comment: I watched it in preparation for the Batman vs. Superman movie. It’s okay. It was too serious but my hubby said DC movies are usually serious compared to Marvel. Anyways, I also noticed how things were not-so-believable in the movie and I was pissed on how many buildings were destroyed killing lots of people . I know it’s just a movie but I thought that maybe that would be Batman’s reason for hating Superman. And I was right. Ooops, spoiler.

11. Mockingjay Part 1 (2014)

Date: 03.12.16
Source: Downloaded/Rented
Comment: I wasn’t able to finish it but I feel too lazy now to do so. I’m kind of cheating with my Movie Diary. Haha. Well, I’ve just seen the first hour and watched Mockingjay Part 2 the next day so I don’t think it matters now. I dunno why it doesn’t get my attention anymore.

12. Mockingjay Part 2 (2015)

Date: 03.13.16
Source: Downloaded/Rented
Comment: Again, I wasn’t watching seriously but I still understood what was happening. I hate that it suddenly looked like a romantic film between Katniss and Peeta. I’m just not that enthusiastic with Hunger Games anymore. My hubby like the last movies though. He noticed a lot of plot holes with the first ones. I’m just, for some reason, bored with the last movies.

13. Daddy’s Home (2015)

Date: 03.13.16
Source: Downloaded/Rented
Comment: It does have a low rating but I like it. Haha. Will Ferrel and Mark Wahlberg just have this comical chemistry that made me and my family laughed so hard while watching the movie.

14. Allegiant (2016)

Date: 03.19.16
Source: Movie Theater
Comment: I didn’t see the second one but I still understood this third installment of the Divergent Series. I can say that it’s just okay. I didn’t get bored during the film but there’s still no ending yet so there will be a continuation after this for sure.

15. Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice

Date: 03.27.16
Source: Movie Theater
Comment: Unfortunately, the trailers were better than the movie itself. My hubby is a big Batman fan and he’s disappointed with the film. I don’t wanna give any spoilers but the climax was kinda funny. And their fight scene was only 5 minutes. They should’ve given it a different title. By the way, Wonder Woman rocks!

16. Sisters (2015)

Date: 03.27.16
Source: Downloaded/Rented
Comment: Watched it with my sisters-in-law. Tina and Amy are really funny together. We enjoyed watching it.

February 2016 Happy List

What? February is over? How time flies. These are the things that made me happy throughout the previous month.

1. Subscription Boxes

My husband and I have been eyeing these monthly subscription boxes for a while until we decided to give them a try.

  • Loot Crate

My hubby’s choice. This box is for geeks and gamers.Β  He started to subscribe last January where the theme was “Invasion”. Basically, the box includes random stuff based from Alien-themed movies and TV Shows. Last Feb, the theme was “Dead” and it features exclusive items based on Deadpool and The Walking Dead. The monthly subscription fee is about $20.

February #LootCrate #Dead #Deadpool and #TheWalkingDead

  • Popsugar Must-Have

And this is my choice. I’d like to try this because it includes a little bit of everything from beauty products to food. I guess I entered in a good month because the February 2016 box as I’ve heard is the best so far. It even includes a $20 Victoria’s Secret gift card! For only $39.95 (minus $5 for my first box), the total retail value of this box is almost $300. Interested? Click here to subscribe and get $5 off for your first box.

My first ever #popsugarmusthave box. #February So many goodies. πŸ™‚ Can't pick a favorite…

2. Superbowl Halftime Performance

This had been trending because they say Beyonce and Bruno Mars made awesome performances while “stealing the show” from Coldplay who are the main performers . It sounded like Coldplay was bullied by a lot of netizens.Β This is my first Superbowl in America so I really don’t have a basis of comparison when it comes to halftime performances (except Katy Perry’s last year) but honestly? I think the band did a great job! I love the medley of their songs and everything about their performance.

3. Movies!

I just realized I watched movies in the movie house for three consecutive weeks: Hail, Caesar!. Deadpool and Zoolander 2. I won’t share anything about them yet because I’ll post it separately on my February Movie Diary.

4. My Apps of the Month

  • Color Switch

I’m actually not sure if it made me happy or annoyed. Haha. I couldn’t stop playing it. If you are looking for an addictive game or something just to pass the time, download Color Switch on your phone now. πŸ™‚

I can't stop. 😦

High Score Update: 37

  • DMV Genius (or Genie?)

One of my goals this year is to learn how to drive. The first step is to get my Driving Permit test. I tried to read the handbook for review but it just makes me sleepy everytime. Then, I discovered this nice practice test app! It’s a compilation of questions based from your state handbook. The questions are also categorized and have explanations after you answer them. It’s really cool! Hopefully, it will really make it easier for me once I take the test.

5. Street Fighter V

If you are a 90’s kid, you probably played this game when you were young.Β  I remember when my cousin and I would always choose Chun-Li because she’s pretty. Haha. So my hubby bought the new Street Fighter V and we enjoy playing it. As one of my FB friends commented, “The couple that plays together, stays together. ”

Hubby and wifey playing #StreetFighterV.

6.Major Award Shows

  • Grammy

I can say that I enjoy watching the performances (Yep. Even Justin Bieber’s)! The results are okay, too. Taylor Swift won Album of the Year. I don’t hate her.Β  I actually love 1989 but I remember Sara Bareilles being nominated in the same category last 2014 and didn’t win despite her album being a genius masterpiece. I won’t argue because Daft Punk won that category that year. I guess, it’s just not her time yet.

  • Oscars

After the #oscarssowhite controversy, the biggest movie award ceremony was finally held last February 28. Chris Rock hosted the show and he had so many good points on his monologue. Anyways, I’m also happy that Leonardo Dicaprio finally won an Oscar! I saw The Revenant and I truly agree that he deserves it. πŸ™‚

7. Aos Application is Approved!

Yay! I’m now a permanent resident here in the US. That means I won’t be deported soon. Haha. The Adjustment of Status interview is the final step that you have to take after entering the US through a K1 Visa a.k.a Fiance Visa. Once you’re approved, you don’t have to worry about any paperwork for almost two years, anyway.

Movie Diary: January 2016

Hello! I love watching movies! However, it’s not like I watch movies all the time. This year, I have decided to list down the films I’ve watched every month. Let’s see the total number of these movies at the end of the year. πŸ™‚

1. Star Wars: The Phantom Menace (1999)

Date: 01.01.16
Source: Rented/Downloaded
Comment: I just watched the 70’s Star Wars trilogy before the recent one came out. I loved it as well as the new one. I super love Rey. πŸ™‚ I heard from others that the prequel wasn’t really good so it’s okay for me not to watch it. I was just curious of how Darth Vader became a villain so I still watched it and to be honest? I got sleepy during this first film.

2. Star Wars: Attack of the CloneS (2002)

Date: 01.02.16
Source: Rented/Downloaded
Comment: Ditto.

3. Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith (2005)

Date: 01.02.16
Source: Rented/Downloaded
Comment: I guess this is the best of the three. πŸ™‚

4. Goosebumps (2015)

Date: 01.09.16
Source: Rented/Downloaded
Comment: This is a pretty feel-good movie. I recommend it for you to watch with family and friends for a good laugh.

5. Pentatonix: On My Way Home (2015)

Date: 01.10.16
Source: Netflix
Comment: So this is really a documentary. And as I’ve shared on my last Happy List, I’m addicted to them lately. Good news: they will have a world tour! They will be here in Seattle on April 27 and we already purchased tickets! *excited*
